Membership fee and registration
Do I have to pay the student union membership fee?
All foreign degree students are required to join the Student union. They are entitled to all student discounts in trains, buses, campus cafeterias etc., as well as YTHS(FSHS) services.
Postgraduate students can join the student union if they wish to but are NOT entitled to VR / Matkahuolto discounts or YTHS(FSHS) dental services. The membership fee for postgraduate students is 84€ per year.
Exchange students have the right to join the student union if their study at the University of Kuopio for at least three (3) months. They are entitled to all student discounts.
When do I have to pay the SU membership fee?
Degree students have to pay their fee when registering / enrolling to a semester. Payment is to be made before the registration deadline 15.9.(the date remains the same every year). By paying at the right time with the right reference number the registration is automatical, and separate registration at the student affairs office is not necessary. Payments made after the registration deadline are not registered automatically, and separate registration is necessary. Exchange students need to present their receipt of payment at the international office to be registered.
How can I pay the membership fee?
There are two ways to pay the KYY membership fee:
- e-payment through Wossikka (recommended)
- To the SU account using your personal reference number. The reference number is essential in this type of payment!
You can complete an e-payment if
- you have the username for Kampusnet and
- e-banking through Nordea, Osuuspankki, Sampo, Säästöpankki tai Paikallisosuuspankki.
When completing an e-payment through Wossikka be sure to return from your online bank to Wossikka! Otherwise complete your payment to the SU back account (Nordea 158930-11156) using your personal reference number. You can check your reference number in Wossikka. When using e-payment the reference number is generated automatically.
Can I pay the membership fee by cash or card at the SU office?
No. Cash payments are not possible because SU cannot alter students' registration information in the university database. Also, cash trafficking in SU is mimimized for security reasons. Refunds over 20€ are made to bank accounts, not in cash. You can, however, pay the student card fee in cash.
I've paid my fee a long time ago but by registration isn't shown in the university database, what do I do?
If you suspect or know that there has been a mistake in your membership fee payment you will have to settle the matter with the SU office and the study affairs office. You will need the following information:
- who made the payment
- when (date)
- to which account was the payment made?
- was a reference number used (if yes, what was the reference number=
- how was the payment made (Wossikka/e-payment, online banking, ATM, at a bank...
If you have a receipt of the transaction or can print out a receipt from you online bank please do take it with you. Settling faulty payments begins with finding the transaction in the SU accounting. When the transaction is found and necessary measures taken, SU gives a certificate of payment to show at the student affairs office. A faulty payment does not lead to automatical registration, therefore a registration is required at the study affairs office. Study affairs office, however, cannot register a student without a certificate of payment.
