What is Winterfest?
Students’ multidisciplinary winter fair Winterfest gathers students from Kuopio to Valkeisenlampi (in the centre of Kuopio) for wintery fun on Tuesday 23rd February. There are three different events during the day:
- Winter fair at Valkeisenlampi in the centre 12 pm – 7 pm.
In programme: snow football tournament, team competition, ice fishing competition, Students’ Unofficial Snow bowling World Championship, sledding, human curling, sausages and warm juice.
- Stopover – the program continues at Bar Memphis and Puikkari Karaoke Bar at 6 pm – 10 pm. The last team competition checkpoint will be at Bar Memphis. Live music by Funkymental Frequency. Karaoke at Puikkari starts at 6 pm.
- After Party in Night Club Puikkari at 9 pm – 4 am. Prizes given for the competition winners. Live music by Lonestar.

Tickets and pre-inscriptions:
The entrance to Valkeisenlampi is free. For the team competition there is a fee of 5€ per team member. This fee also includes the entrance to the final party at Night Club Puikkari. Inscriptions for the team competition at the ticket pre-sale locations until the February 22nd at 12 pm.

Post-inscriptions: Café SAVOTTA (Savonia Polytechnic Campus at Sairaalankatu) on the day of the event until 4 pm.
1. Winter fair at Valkeisenlampi 12 pm – 7 pm
The first 16 teams to inscribe themselves will be admitted to the Snow Football tournament. Mixed teams required, both girls and guys need to be on the field at all times! Team size is 1+4. Registrations and more information: toimisto.kuopio(at)isyy.fi by February 12th 2010.

Prizes will be given to the winners at the After Party at Night Club Puikkari at 00.30 am.
Team competition
The team competition takes place at Valkeisenlampi between 1 pm and 7 pm. The inscriptions of the four-member teams should be made in advance at the ticket pre-sale locations or on the event day until 4 pm at Café SAVOTTA. Teams need to consist of four members! The team competition fee is 5€ per team member. This fee also includes the entrance to the After Party at Night Club Puikkari and an attachable badge.
The team leader leads their team to all checkpoints that have a variety of tasks the teams need to complete. All teams have their own “passport” for the competition as well as a short number code (can be found in the passport) they need to remember when entering a checkpoint.
There are seven checkpoints in total and the team needs to visit all of them. Six checkpoints are at Valkeisenlampi, the last one at Bar Memphis in the centre. All checkpoints are clearly marked (you really can’t miss them). Checkpoints are run by student organizations.
Prizes for the team competition:
- First prize: 4 x 32” LCD-televisions (LG 32LF2500), sponsored by Data Group
- Second prize: 4 x 100€
- Third prize: 4 x S-Group Accommodation Gift Vouchers
- Fourth prize: 4 x S-Group Gift Vouchers á 30€
- Fifth prize: 1 lane of Cosmic Bowling for 2 hours
- Sixth – Tenth prize: Viking Line Gift Vouchers for “Day in Stockholm” –cruises for 4 persons
Prizes will be given to the winners at the After Party at Night Club Puikkari at 00.30 am.
The last checkpoint is at Bar Memphis between 6 pm and 10 pm. Karaoke at Puikkari at the same time. Discounts on food with the student card on the event day.
Maken Pyydys Ice Fishing Competition 1 pm – 3 pm
Students’ Ice fishing competition will be held during the Winterfest –event at Valkeisenlampi.
Rules:
- Participating free of charge
- Students bring their own rods and baits
- The competition area is limited (in front of the pier closer to the city)
- The holes are drilled beforehand
- The student who catches the biggest fish, wins
- All competitors have two hours to catch the fish (1 pm – 3 pm)

Prizes:
First prize: Gift Voucher to Maken Pyydys (value 500€). Another prize (sponsored by Maken Pyydys) will be drawn amongst the other competitors.
Prizes will be given right after the competition at Valkeisenlampi.
Maken Pyydys offers: Delfin ice fishing set OFFER 5€ (includes the rod, a fishing line and jig)
Students’ Unofficial Snow Bowling World Championship:
Student’s Unofficial Snow Bowling World Championships will be held for the first time during the Winterfest –event at Valkeisenlampi. Bowling will be non-stop, and therefore inscriptions are not needed. Participation to the contest is free of charge. The winner will get a nice trophy and a voucher for two hours of cosmic bowling in the Kuopio Bowling Hall.
Prizes will be given to the winner at the After Party at Night Club Puikkari at 00.30 am.
Other things to do at Winterfest:
In the event area, there is a possibility to go snow sliding, try pole sledding or go human curling with a small team. ISYY and SAVOTTA have also sponsored sausages and warm juice to be distributed in the event area. Nursing students’ first aid team takes care of you if you happen to get hurt!
2. Stopovers at Bar Memphis and Puikkari 6 pm – 10 pm
When the evening gets darker, the program continues at Bar Memphis and Puikkari’s Karaoke bar from 6 pm to 10 pm. The last team competition checkpoint is at Bar Memphis, and needs to be completed before 10 pm. There is also live music in Bar Memphis, performed by Funkymental Frequency (six musicians playing soul, funk and disco music). A few game rooms with game consoles offer a nice pass-time as well.
The other stopover, besides Bar Memphis, is Puikkari’s Karaoke bar across the street. Karaoke will begin at 6 pm. Entrance to Puikkari is free for those who participated in the team competition, otherwise 5€ from the door.
Student discounts on food in Memphis bar, e.g. Memphis Burger 10€ (normally 13,30€).
3. After Party at Night Club Puikkari 9 pm – 4 am
Night Club Puikkari will open at 9 pm and the party can go on until it closes at 4 am.
Live music performed by Lonestar, Showtime at 11 pm.
After the band, all prizes of the team competition, snow football and snow bowling will be given (approximately at 00.30 am)
Tickets to Night Club Puikkari 5€ (from the door).
Remember – if you participate in the team competition, you’ll get a free entrance to the After Party in Night Club Puikkari!
